Beer Rules Suck

What the hell was I thinking? I broke it again tonight.

I think I should revised the portion of the Beer Rule that states that I can have only one beer daily. Maybe it should be something more like "I can have as many beers as my points totals allow without diving into the weekly extra points balance" unless one of those exceptions apply. Most days, that means 2 or 3 tops, and that dwindles as I lose weight (because I will have fewer points daily).

You let me know what you think 'bout that. But I think I should change it.

Just sayin'.

I still think beer rule (and exceptions to) is a slippery slope. These are the formative days for what is going to be a long process.

Legit question - if you LESS than your daily points, is that a good/bad/neutral thing? That is, it would seem that you're asking to go up to your daily point value with beer. I'm curious if it makes any difference at all to not push those point values to their daily limit.

Also, I'm wondering if, by not eating prepackaged foods - such as 'a piece of pizza' (which can vary in size - though i know you had small ones) - can those extra .5 points in a particularly greasy/meaty/whatever piece of pizza make a difference? Point being, if you are accidentally over point values and opt to fill the rest with beer, you'd technically be over point values for the day.

Just a few questions and the overall statement that beer rule is a slippery slope. I'll let others chime in. . .(are there still others?)

I think one beer daily is plenty. On ocasion you can have two. Two or three daily can point to a problem. :)

Hey now, hey now! Nobody said I was going to fill my points allowance with beer.

Most days, I haven't been using my points total. Most often I'm about 1 or 2 under, 4 if you count the points I get for being on a treadmill daily. WeightWatchers says you should be using all your points, especially if you're losing more than 2 pounds a week.

Boy, good to know I'm being watched (and audited!).

Think of a beer like I do -- a reward at the end of a disciplined day. If that's my little treat instead of a square of chocolate or a piece of cheescake, why's that a bad thing?

By the way, you should both attach your names to your posts. I can pretty much figure out who each of you are anyway. :)

That is the comment that seems to suggest having as many beers as your limit will hold.

But if he's not going over the points limit...does it really matter? That's my thing. I mean, as long as you're getting all your nutrients - why not use the rest of the points for beer? I know I'd do it with cookies.

Ah, I should have phrased that differently. In order to have beer within my points total, I have to give up food. I love food more than beer. :) I'm talking about at the end of the day, if I still have points left and I'm not hungry, I should be able to use them on a beer or two as a reward rather than force-feed myself. IF I wanna. That's the change to the beer rule I'm proposing. Sounds like Dave and Jo think it should stand as is. :)

Well, I think rather than setting yourself up for failure, you should set reasonable goals that are a stretch but not impossible and then achieve them. So, if reasonable but stretch is a beer or two a night if you can afford it points wise, that sounds fine to me.

Especially since you're obviously just going to drink it anyway.

See, now today, even though I behaved quite well, I'm down to 1 point and 2 activity points (for the treadmill action) I could still use. That would be one lite beer for 2 points if I chose. If I had one more regular point left, the proposed rule revision would mean I could have two beers.

Or as Diana so sharply points out, I might just drink two anyway, who cares what the rule is.

Here's to controversy! *chugs*
