We're in Nebraska's loving embrace.

Let's hope she didn't eat whatever northeastern Colorado did, so the wind she makes isn't as rank.

Finished dinner in Sterling, CO. Headed as far as Kearney, NE tonight. Will report when we settle for those of you who worry about us.

Mmmm, Cornbread

'Nuff said. ;)
I don't care where Glenn Miller grew up, Ft. Morgan, CO is the stankiest town I ever did smell.

Touring A Gold Mine

Just finished touring the Phoenix gold mine in Idaho Springs. Nifty, and the boys got some rocks with gold in them.
We're in Vail doing a little exploring. Probably grab some lunch here too, find something fun to do.

Roadside Rock Climbing

We spontaneously stopped at a little offshoot next to the CO River and did some exploring, which is always a hilight for the boys. Thought I'd have them take a pic of me for once since I'm never in any trip pictures. What's that guy wearing?

Day 90 - Road Warriors II

Up and about to hit the road after a stop at a local coffee shop for breakfast. Cory has a deelicious breakfast burrito, and Cole has a muffin!

I Learned One Thing...

Quote of the day, from Cory, while considering the trip. "I learned one thing: I don't belong in Las Vegas! There's all those stripper cards and stuff."
We have arrived in Grand Junction, and have secured a discount motel room at The Mesa Inn. Everyplace else was full to the brim.

Now for grub.

Crossed the border back into Colorful Colorado, and we're about 20 minutes from tonight's stop.

Good Drivin'

In daylight and sans sleet, I-70 in Utah is a really fun (and gorgeous) drive. I'm thinking we'll bed down in Grand Junction, CO tonight.

Boys tuckered.
And now Utah. With Patsy Cline playin on the iPod.
Just crossed the border into AZ. That's Arizona. The Grand Canyon state.

On The Road Again

Here's a few snaps of our festivities at the AventureDome, which is inside Circus Circus on the north side of the strip. When we were hanging out with Dan & Barb, Barb told Cole all about "a pink dome with an amusement park in it behind Treasure Island", so as far as he was concerned we absolutely had to get there before we left town.

We played miniature golf, kids did the bumper cars and some midway games and we played air hockey a couple times (and I kicked Cory's rear). Yes, indeed, that IS an unearthly pink glow in every picture. The "dome" is pink acrylic. It feels yucky inside that place, but the kids had fun.

And now, we've hit the road again! Gonna gas up and caffeine up after we're a ways out of town, and we've got lunch packed from the leftover food from the condo.

I'm looking forward to seeing Utah in the light.

Day 89 - Bachelors In Vegas

Mommy's been dropped off at the airport. We're road-trippin' bachelors once more!

But first, AdventureDome and Circus Circus!

Lance Burton, He's Dreamy

Lance Burton, he's dreamy.

Day 88 - Magic Moments

Lance Burton tickets secured for tonight!

Wednesday, March 28, 2007

I'm leaving the wife and chilluns at the condo and goin' gamblin' across the street -- and drinking for free -- like last night. :)

Down $50.

Day Gone Bust

Well, I screwed up our appointment at the Boneyard. I was confirmed for Tuesday at noon, and in my head I thought the appointment was Wednesday, so we showed up today and found nobody there to greet us. I called the lady's cell and indeed found out she was expecting us yesterday.

So we didn't get to see the old signs like we'd hoped. Next time I guess. :(

Instead we went downtown and ate lunch, then checked out some of the older casinos on the old Fremont Street, which was pretty cool. Picked up some souvenirs and took some interesting pics.

It was/is still quite cold, so it wasn't very fun being outside, and then Jo all-of-a-sudden didn't feel very well, so our day has been pretty discombobulated and dull all-in-all.

We ended up going back to the condo around 3:00 and Jo napped (she's mostly feeling better now), and the kids read and watched some TV, so they're zombies now. I finished up the last of the Target stuff so I'm going dark work-wise for the next couple of days.

I did get my phone replaced today with a newer model (had to purchase), which I got configured over an hour or so this afternoon while Jo napped. I'm back "online" with email and such, whether I should be or not.

That's all for today. Tomorrow we'll see a magic show and spend some more time on the strip.

Day 87 - Bret: 1, Vegas: 0 (Or Vice Versa?)

160.5 on the scale. Walked I-don't-know-how-far-but-really-far to this Starbucks to finish some stuff for this Target project I dragged with me.

It would seem Vegas is not besting me, yet anyway. Happy to see something much closer to 160 today.

Alright, I have to admit the most idiotic thing that has ever happened to me on one of these road trips.

I've been wearing my toker poncho-thingy since it is still quite nippy here, and yesterday afternoon, nature did call. So, as one would expect, I slipped my phone in the front pocket of the poncho and found the nearest comfort station. As I stood and readied myself in front of the available "sit-down" throne I made an inconvenient adjustment, which launched my phone out of my poncho and square into the fucking toilet.

I couldn't even have made this shit up.

So yeah, it is dead. Stone cold dead.

So, I'll be more "on vacation" and unplugged until I get it replaced at the Sprint Store (which luckily is right down the street from where we're staying).

I believe this is the stuff memories are made of.

What Color Is Your Chi?

Quote of the day, from Cole. "Cory, what color is your chi?"

Waldorf makes for fun kids.

Day 86 - Bowling After Breakfast

164.5 on the scale. No treadmill, but 100/70.

Didn't get the bowling in last night on account of widespread tiredness. So, we're bowling this morning instead, since it is cold outside!

It is like 50 degrees here. Isn't this the desert? When do they turn the heat back on?

Monday, March 26, 2007

Hoover Dam & Lake Mead

After my walk this morning and then a good hour and a half hangin' out at the pool, we decided to embark upon the Hoover Dam journey after lunch instead of the indoor bowling that the kids wanted to do. It was nice outside, I mean, come on!

It is about a half-hour away from Vegas, and the drive over there was relatively scary for Jo (good thing she wasn't with us in Utah). When we got there, we walked on top of the dam for a bit and took a couple of pictures, then paid some dough to take the tour which takes you down into the heart of the beast to show you the turbine generators, one of the original river bypass tunnels and some exhibits/displays. I think the kids enjoyed it, mostly.

Since we (I) pulled them out of school for this trip, it was the least we could do to edumacate them a little bit about American Ingenuity at Hoover Dam, eh?

On the way back, we stopped at Lake Mead at a beach there and let them screw around for another hour or more. They collected mussel shells, skipped rocks, and made a mud/sand aquaduct/damn system, and frolicked in the water. It was pretty windy, sand blasts and everything, but it was good to let them run off some steam before we headed back to the ranch.

Tonight, we're heading across the street for dinner, then might bowl a few games.

Funny, I've put only $11 into gambling so far. Where are we again?

Day 85 - Treadmill Unavailable; Please Try Your Exercise Again Later

163.0 on the scale. Long walk down the highway (treadmills were occupied), although I don't know how far or how fast I was going. It was much more than a half hour though. I think I worried my wife slightly since I was gone so long.

We hung out at the pool this morning, and now are going to Hoover Dam!

Sunday, March 25, 2007

Hangin' with Dan & Barb

We met Dan and Barb in front of Treasure Island around 3:00 today, and then walked up and down their 3-block stretch of the strip checking stuff out.

We saw the Bellagio (although not the chocolate fountain, Mom), the Bellagio fountains, The Venician and more, and then ate with them at their favorite restaurant back inside Treasure Island, where I had some deeeeeeeelicious French Onion Soup and a house salad (Thank you! I know I behaved quite well!) and Cole had a pancake tower that he couldn't even finish half of.

We then went up to their room at the top of Treasure Island's hotel to witness their terrific view (wow, you could see north up the strip some 10 blocks), then climbed back in the car and headed back to our digs around 8:30.

Kids are having "lamp time" then hitting the hay. I think I'm gonna finish up the work I did this morning, deliver the files, then maybe blow a dollar or twelve on the slots across the street.

Day 84 - Weigh-In Day: What Happens in Vegas Stays In Vegas

I'm not even tellin' until I heal from the lashings I've given myself for yesterday.

Deal with it.

However, I did find the treadmill this morning.

30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.6 miles, 4.6/6.2, 100/70.

Saturday, March 24, 2007

Bad day weightwatcherswise.

Note to self: avoid breakfast buffets, margaritas by the yard, and great indian restaurants.

Vegas = bad for goal.

A Taste Of The Strip

We spent the afternoon walking around and getting a little taste of the strip with the boys.

We then spent a fair amount of time at GameWorks playing with stuff. Funny thing is, the one in Minneapolis is much bigger and better, and right in our backyard. But we've never taken the boys there! I'll post some pics to this post later.

We also discovered quickly that you can buy a drink at one place and take it anywhere else in Vegas. No rules. (Well no rules that prevent you from coming in to a place to spend money anyway.)

We got hungry later and scoped out a place for supper -- we decided on an indian place for some tasty goodness. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Day 83 - Getting Settled

162.5 on the scale. Have to find the treadmill, I know there is one somewhere.

Getting cleaned up and then we're gonna get some grub.

Today is going to be about running the excess energy out of the boys that built up over our marathon drive, and getting settled with some groceries and stuff.

Discovered we've got no internet in the room, so any internet usage (including extended blog posts, sorry) will have to be accomplished in the lobby of the hotel or at a coffee shop or something.

Don't Worry Your Pretty Little Heads

We have arrived. No-one need worry any longer. :)
And now Nevada. The neon signs per-capita seemed to spike right at the border. Yeah baby!
Just crossed state lines into Arizona!

Friday, March 23, 2007

I-70 in Utah is dark. Very dark. Toss in lines that need repainting and rain/sleet at 7,000+ feet, and you have some interesting driving.

Goodbye Colorado, Hello Utah

Alright, we made it through the mountain passes, curves and tunnels of Colorado, and then there was Utah. Cory says, "Bring on the Mormons!"

I'm Gonna Blow!

Supper in Grand Junction, CO. Kids are driving me NUTS at the moment -- goofy mode for the last hour and a half -- so we gotta get outta the car for awhile.
Passing through Vail. Damnation we've got a beautiful country! Light rain and 45 degrees.

Waving At Denver

Passin' through Denver. Hi Mandy and Jamie! 'bout 9 more hours to go, if we go all the way. We'll see...
Mamma-say-mamma-sa-mamakoosa! Colorful Colorado welcomes us. 185 miles NE of Denver....
Lunch in Ogallala, NE at a Runza. New fast food experience, hmmm...

I'm behaving though with a grilled chicken sandwich and side salad. :)

Day 82 - On The Road Again

Dunno weight. No treadmill but 100/70.

9:00 AM. Hitting the road again after a crappy little continental breakfast.

Night folks. Arrived safely in Grand Island, albeit with two tired boys...

Thursday, March 22, 2007

Cool! I just drove by PayPal's headquarters.
Welcome to Nebraska! "...the GOOD life..." So said the sign! 11:01 PM.
Iowa border! 7:18 PM.
The road is officially HIT! 5:35 PM.

Latah!

Leaving the office!

The adventure is about to begin... Bye Shirleen (and everyone else)!

Day 81 - Creeping Up On A Goal

160.5 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

What weird shifts on the scale lately. I'll take that 160.5, don't get me wrong, but what a weird jump.

Didn't sleep well last night unfortunately. And I'm up relatively early and rearing to go oddly enough, so it was good to expend some of the energy on the treadmill.

Looking forward to tonight's road trippage. There's just something about having nothing to attend to but the long open road and your iPod. I'm sorry, but that's livin'. The boy's have lotsa books packed and ready, and we'll be hitting the road around 5:15 or so.

Cell phone will be on, and I'll be accessible via e-mail. Will report as we go!

Wednesday, March 21, 2007

Day 80 - Road Trip Eve

163.0 on the scale. No treadmill (yet).

So I was up late again on Target stuff. Gotta get things far enough that I don't have to work AS much on vacation, though I will still be working some. :)

Tethered to Photoshop and the MacBook Pro.

Packing tonight, leaving tomorrow late-afternoon to get as far as Grand Island, Nebraska in good 'ol Pete.

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Treadmill Report

30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

Yeah, I ain't stoppin' 'til I reach the bott'm.

BAM!

Day 79 - What Happens In Vegas Gets Blogged

163.0 on the scale. No treadmill (work continues to get in the way).

I'll have to get on the running machine tonight for awhile.

So last night I was up until about 2:30 or so working on the Target stuff, then up again at 6:30 or so to finish it up by 8:00. Felt good to get it out the door, but then I had to go back to bed for awhile.

Just got into work at 12:30 after a lunch out with my wifey-poo. God bless Applebee's and their WeightWatchers menu items.

I think I have another night ahead of me, this time on the kiosk side of the project.

Getting excited for the road trip! I'm going to chronicle it on the blog instead of the usual email chain I send out to friends and family, so watch this space starting Thursday night.

Monday, March 19, 2007

Day 78 - Holy Toledo!

162.0 on the scale. No treadmill (work's getting in the way).

Um, that couldn't have been yesterday's weight?

Why do the gods mock me?

Sunday, March 18, 2007

Day 77 - Weigh-In Day

164.5 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

Well, that sucks. Though we went out, I thought I behaved quite well last night and hoped to show at least a little progress today. I mean, we went out to Nami for sushi on St. Patty's Day! (My all-Irish grandmother would be appalled, sorry Grandma!).

Sushi is low points! We had edamame for an appetizer -- freakin' soy beans for cripes sake! I avoided the dessert altogether.

I did have some sake and a few non-light beers, and then one chocolate chip cookie back at the office where we all went afterwards to play a little Wii.

Started a new movie today. K-PAX.

So, I've slowly squandered my 2-3 week advantage and am gonna have to get serious it would seem. I'm only 1 week ahead of the grey line now. Eek!

Saturday, March 17, 2007

Day 76 - Happy St. Patty's Day!

164.0 on the scale. No treadmill yet.

Went and got my troublematic tire looked at this morning in prep for the long road trip to Vegas next week. We're starting to get excited!

The boys are staying over at Grandma & Grandpa's tonight, and we're just about to drive them up there. Then Jo and I are going to tool around Maple Grove for awhile I guess. Shop and stuff. Not exactly sure for what, but I'll just obediently follow around like a puppy and maybe I'll get a piece or two of new, better-fitting clothes out of the deal. :)

Oh, and maybe some green beer.

I just about forgot! I have to quick change into my Irish lumberjack shirt for the day. Jo's gonna love it.

Friday, March 16, 2007

Day 75 - TGIF

163.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

Was out last night for Ryan Meis's going-away happy hour. Had a good time, but I've said it before, we're all sad to see him go. Best of luck in San Fran to the both of them!

So, busy day today, which I should really begin. :)

My weekend will have plenty of work squeezed into it too it would seem.

Thursday, March 15, 2007

Day 74 - Looking At The Forest

165.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.4 miles, 4.6/6.2, 100/70/dumbbells.

So I did not use all my daily points yesterday, and I only had that one beer while playing the Wii yesterday afternoon at work. (And really, the Wii activity should cancel out that beer, right? ;) )

I think this weighing daily thing is a funny thing. Weightwatchers (and most other diets for that matter) say you really shouldn't be stepping on the scale daily and gauging success/failure by that -- that typically so little changes from day to day that it can be discouraging. Instead of the daily "tree", we should look at the weekly "forest".

Who doesn't love a good cliche, eh?

But when you're losing, daily progress is very encouraging, and weighing in with the hopes of that is optimistic instead of fearful.

Anyway, I think the number has a lot to do with what I do the night before. Like, whether or not I stay in my points allowance for the day, if I eat anything of real substance past like 7:30, the next morning shows no change or a backwards step. It doesn't seem to matter with beer or fluids, seemingly. Like it is food weight not liquid weight.

Maybe the rule should be no eating after 7:30. But then, like I really need another rule to break.

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

Day 73 - You Can't Always Get What You Want

165.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.55 miles, 4.6/6.1, 100/70.

Awesome. Wrong direction.

Jogged some, on and off today.

So I heard a story yesterday about Excelsior (the city where my kids go to school), the old Excelsior Amusement Park that used to be there, and the origin of the Rolling Stones song "You Can't Always Get What You Want". Scroll down to where it says "Mick and Mr. Jimmy". Good story.

Also, I finished The Big Lebowski this morning. Good stuff. Better than I remembered.

Hi ho. Hi ho. It's off to work I go.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Day 72 - ISO Second Wind

164.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

Alright, I feel like I'm hitting a slump. Like I don't care whether I get on the treadmill and hit 155 or not. Like I don't care how many goddamn tortilla chips I put in my mouth.

Time to pick myself up by the boot straps and kick some ass.

Where's that breeze?

Monday, March 12, 2007

Day 71 - Monday, Ug.

164.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70/dumbbells.

More later, gots to get into work.

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Day 70 - Weigh-In Day

164.5 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/0/dumbbells.

Jo-Anne has decided to take the boys to the Waterpark of America which is a good thing. I went with the boys about a month ago or so, maybe more, and while we had a lot of fun, I'd rather not go today. Instead, it sounds kinda nice to be alone in the house for 5 hours. That never happens.

I think I'll make a spinach lasagna for supper with part of that time. Nap. Read.

And of course, do a little work.

Yesterday, I made a monstrous batch of Knoepfla Soup which turned out scrumptiously. I make it with lots of celery, onion and carrots and some chicken though, so maybe it isn't true to the traditional kind pictured in that link but still scrumptious and probably healthier. The boys will be taking it for lunch all week I'm sure.

Did you remember to spring forward?

No, I did not win the powerball last night either.

A long time ago, I put The Big Lebowski on my Netflix queue since I wanted to see it again. It is what I'm currently sweating to. I forgot how good it was.

I Play Me Some Shitty Tennis

But I had fun. And no, it was not snooty at all. :)

Nor was it just wine and cheese, and as such, I'm glad I had a fair amount of physical activity to offset the non-lite beers, the mini-quiches, the cashews, the curried crab-salad on croissants, and the crazy-addictive chex-mix like thing. Yeah, and the cheese, which is and always will be my achilles heel.

Don't get your hopes up for an earth-shatteringly low weigh-in tomorrow.

All's I'm sayin'.

Day 69 - Saturday And Sunny

164.0 on the scale. No treadmill yet, it is Saturday.

I don't have a lot to share today, I'm definitely in Saturday mode. I dare say I'm in teenager Saturday mode, and would like nothing more than to stay in bed and sleep until 1:00 like the old days. :)

As if.

Instead, I'm up, I'm going to take Cole to gymnastics in about a half hour and run a few errands. I've got work to do this weekend, catch-up on the Marvin and Target projects, and some HAM thinking to do. Then Cole's maybe got a birthday party on Sunday at the Waterpark of America, and I'm trying to decide if I want to pay the exorbitant fee and get in the water with a handful of parents I hardly know just so I can keep an eye on him myself.

We have a babysitter tonight because we've been invited to go to this Tennis/Wine/Cheese thing with some other parents from the kid's school. (How snooty sounding is that?)

It is a fundraiser for which we had to "buy" expensive tickets, but I think it'll be fun. I haven't played tennis in a long time. Well real tennis anyway. I play Wii Tennis every now and then, but I'm not sure that exactly applies.

Friday, March 9, 2007

Day 68 - Prevailing Winds

163.5 on the scale. Just shy of 30 minutes on the treadmill, don't know how far, 4.6, 100/0/dumbbell action.

Not quite 30 minutes. I've been experiencing some discomfort since I got up and the treadmill was contributing negatively to it, so I stopped short of 30 minutes. TMI.

Hey look! Something shiny!

163.5 is the lowest number I recall seeing on the scale, ever. I didn't get that far last time before succumbing to the cheesy pepperoni-y goodness of excess quantities of pizza and the like. That's 8.5 pounds away from the goal. That's something.

Anyway, I'm working the day on the Marvin flash piece except for an afternoon meeting at Target, and then tonight I will be hitting the town for Mark's "last day at his old gig" celebration. Not that I really need to say it, but the beer rule is suspended.

(in fact, it has been all but dead for some weeks)

Next week is Ryan's last week before he moves to San Fran. The Monday after is Mark's first day at HAM. Ahhh, the winds of change.

Thursday, March 8, 2007

Day 67 - Pick Up Weights

164.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3, 4.6, 100/0.

Although the /0 is not for laziness. It is because I had small dumbbells in each hand and was doing numerous and various lifting repetitions whilst treadmilling. (If you've wondered, the number before the slash is crunches, the number after is push ups.)

As soon as you add dumbbells into the equation, I think it can officially be called a workout.

I did not win the Powerball yesterday.

Pete's rescheduled welcome lunch is today. It got snowed out last week. Sawatdee. #22 (spice 3) with sticky rice.

Another tidbit: I successfully deciphered this acronym yesterday - "YAVW. DYGATCTIBOETADYHAQ?" - but did not successfully decipher this acronym - "TOATG".

WTFC?

Wednesday, March 7, 2007

Day 66 - Pick Up Sticks

166.5 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

I didn't want to get up and get on the treadmill today. And as you can see by today's weight, I cheated a little yesterday. By the end of the night, I wanted to eat everything in sight, so I had some tortilla chips and bowl of cereal.

Funny how that seemingly little bit of stuff affects the scale the next morning.

Food weight.

So, today, I'll try not to misbehave as much.

Tuesday, March 6, 2007

The Police Tickets Almost Gone

Well, looks like tickets for The Police concert almost sold out yesterday, at least the affordable ones.

For shits and giggles I checked ticketmaster this morning only found one when I asked for a single ticket at any price, and it was the expensive $220 ticket.

It also looks like they had "gold hot seat" tickets for $375.

Dang. I think I did the right thing joining the fan club. :)

Day 65 - Frosty Thoughts

165.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

I like 165. 165 is good. But it isn't 155.

10 pounds to go before I sleep.
10 pounds to go before I sleep.

Actually, that brings me to a thought that has been rattling around in my head. If I hit 155 before 5/5 this becomes a game of maintenance. And then what happens after 5/5? That's a game of maintenance too. There's no end date really.

My mundane entries, treadmill sweat, rattlings on about Heroes and such will have been sort of pointless if I slowly pack the 30 back on over a year and a half again, ya know?

Pointless is not good.

I think the initiative may have to continue on. Maybe I strive to be 155 by the fifth of every month, 155x?/5 or something. Keep blogging it daily to keep me on the up and up, let the idea that the masses might be watching keep me on it where I might fail myself.

Yeah. The MASSES. *crickets chirping*

Monday, March 5, 2007

Treadmill Report

45 minutes on the treadmill. 3.4 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

Another riveting episode of Heroes tonight. Unfortunately though, I learned there are no new episodes until April 23rd. That's a heap-long time.

However, that gives those of you who have not seen it a chance to get caught up, perhaps. Maybe they'll re-run the other episodes? Maybe they're using the time slot to debut that new Jeff Goldblum series, which looks like it also worthy of extra-curricular treadmillage.

We'll see.

Day 64 - No News Is Good News

166.0 on scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 10/70.

Sorry, nothin' much to report today.

Sunday, March 4, 2007

Day 63 - Weigh-In Day

166.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

I was hoping to be able to officially say I've hit the 20 pound loss mark, but I'm .5 off. Oh well, still steady progress.

Watched Little Miss Sunshine last night. Jo bought it, so we own it. Good flick.

I can't believe I forgot to mention this days ago (since if was asked "who's your all-time favorite band" with a gun to my head...) but I got my hands on two advance tickets to see The Police at the Xcel Center in July. They go on sale officially tomorrow, get them while you can. To get mine, I had to join the official Police Tour Fan Club for an extra $100.

Happy Birthday to me (months early).

So I intend to make Hamburger Strudel1 tonight for supper except I'll be modifying the recipe to make it lower points. I'll use extremely lean beef and mix in extra-lean ground turkey, half the flour will be whole-wheat, and I'll use egg substitute. I don't know that there's really much more I can do to make them even lower points, since the rest is potatoes, water, bullion, and spices.

1 a good German family favorite made by my Grandma H. for special occasions (in case there are any non-familial readers left).

Saturday, March 3, 2007

Day 62 - Can Opener Obsession & Pumpkin Neglect

166.0 on the scale. 30 minutes on the treadmill, 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

Felt good to get back on the treadmill after a spotty week of it. I started watching Rushmore, which I hear you either love or you hate. So far, I'm a lover not a hater.

So, Jo-Anne wanted to test her brand new one-touch can opener the other day despite the fact that we didn't particularly need any cans opened, so she decided to open a can of pumpkin saying she'd make cookies or something later that night. Yeah, that never happened. Days and days later, that poor mound of pumpkin still sat forgotten in its cozy tupperware home in the fridge.

Until this morning. I made the boys some pumpkin pancakes.

Cole loved 'em, Cory not so much. I had one (2 points), and say unto thee that it was good.

Friday, March 2, 2007

Day 61 - Snow Day 2

I've officially declared a snow day today as well. Everyone's doing what they can from home, which for many means unburying their driveways and cars.

Do I really say "as well" too much?

Rickie Lee Report

Alright, two of four albums are really good -- her very first from 1979, Rickie Lee Jones, and the most recent, The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard with the song I heard that started this whole thing.

I'm just not sure about early 80's Rickie Lee yet.

In other news, I went to McDonald's today for lunch after picking up the kids. Probably the first time in like 5 or 6 months. Had the Grilled Premium Chicken Classic w/o mayo, a side salad with lite italian, and half a thing of fries. Okay, so the fries wasn't exactly behaving. Despite mostly behaving, that was still 17 points of food.

Luckily, we had fish, red beans & rice, and steamed broccoli & carrots for supper so I netted out for the day right where I should have.

That's a pat on the back for me, from me.

Treadmill Report

Hello.

Just a quick update to get on record that I did my 30 minutes on the treadmill. 2.3 miles, 4.6, 100/70.

My Rickie Lee Jones albums came today. Four of them. Let's see if I made a good purchase.

Goodbye.

Day 60 - Snow Day

165.5 on the scale. No treadmill (yet).

We got quite a bit more snow last night. I spent the morning at home cranking away against a Target project while yet another wave of snow decended on us.

After dropping the kids off at school Jo-Anne was going to take Cecil to the vet, but visibility and roads were so bad on the way there that she decided to turn back around and head home. She started lobbying early for me to not even head into work at all.

Then, with news that it was likely going to get worse this afternoon, we decided to call the latter half of the day a snow day and let everyone at HAM go home.

Anyway, so I got on the scale this morning and saw a 165.5 reading. That's 20. Pretty cool.

My cold kinda seems to be getting worse. Sneezy. Coughing. Stuffy (...head-fever-so-you-can-rest-medicine).
